Volunteering Matters
NEWS FROM THE VOLUNTEER CENTRE
Welcome to our November edition of our newsletter – we hope you are all keeping well. We are back living under Level 5 restrictions but this has not diminished the spirit of volunteering in the county. Local people are still selflessly giving their time and energy to help those in their community and we thank you all. Here are some updates on what has been happening.
Thinking of Volunteering? Join an online session with our team on Thursday 19th November at 11am As part of South Dublin County Social Inclusion Festival, South Dublin County Volunteer Centre is pleased to invite you to join us at our online Thinking About Volunteering event. Join our online presentation to find out more about volunteering; why it is good for you and how to take the next steps towards becoming a volunteer. We will give you step by step instructions on registering to volunteer and searching for suitable volunteer roles. We will also be available to answer any questions you might have about volunteering and opportunities available. The event is being held on Thursday 19th November at 11am. FRONTLINE HEROES
During National Volunteering Week we held a Frontline Heroes Roll Call, giving organisations the opportunity to acknowledge some of the wonderful individuals who volunteered with them during the pandemic since march. The volunteers have now received their certs from the volunteer centre, in conjunction with south Dublin County council, to acknowledge their contribution

South Dublin Volunteer Corps
Bernard Murphy, our Volunteer Corps Project Worker, has retired and will be sadly missed by all those who had the pleasure to work or volunteer with him. In recent months Bernard has been instrumental in coordinating the volunteers in the Covid-19 test centre and will stay on the role of a volunteer. Fiona Sweeney will be taking over the Project Worker position and we would all like to welcome her to our team.

SDCVC is registered as a company limited by guarantee with a Board of Directors serving the South Dublin County Council area (population 278,749). There are six staff members. SDCVC is part of the national network of 29 Volunteer Centres affiliated to Volunteer Ireland. Core funding comes from the Department of Rural and Community Development with additional funding from South Dublin County Council. Our Mission is: to offer equal opportunities to all sections of the community to participate in meaningful voluntary activity.
