Whether you involve 1 or 1000 volunteers, your organisation needs to ensure it manages volunteers effectively – and by that, we mean everything from how an individual volunteer fits in and works along side paid staff (if you have them) to creating and maintaining extended volunteer programmes. Central to any successful volunteering programme, big or small, is effective volunteer management.
Fundamentals of Volunteer Engagement is our key training for volunteer organisations, designed for those new to volunteer management and leadership, as well as those looking to enhance their skills. This is a two-module course, and attendance at both sessions is required. Delivered as a partnership between the Volunteer Centres Network and Volunteer Ireland, the course covers essential aspects of effective volunteer management, including:
- Planning for volunteer involvement
- Changes in volunteering
- Diversity and inclusion in volunteering
- Volunteer motivations
- Volunteer and organisational expectations
- Barriers to volunteering
- Volunteer engagement
- Screening and selection
- Day-to-day volunteer management
By the end of the course, you will:
- Understand how volunteering fits into your organisation and the opportunities it creates
- Recognise the value of volunteers and effectively communicate this to stakeholders
- Appreciate that volunteering is a two-way process, offering benefits for both volunteers and organisations.
