It is our penultimate story of National Volunteering Week and one that shows how there really is a volunteering opportunity out there for everyone.

Here is Alison’s story

I had often thought about volunteering but with jobs, kids and busy home life I was nervous about how much time I could actually commit to. However I kept browsing through the opportunities on the website and when I saw a role advertised for “Craft an Amigurumi Volunteer”, I knew this was the one for me!

I had recently started to teach myself crochet and amigurumi and I didn’t know what to do with all my somewhat wonky creations. They are so relaxing and fun to make but once they are done I can now happily pass them along to Cairde Activation Centre where they sell them in their shop, so this is a win win for everyone (especially me!).

The staff at the Volunteer Centre have been very friendly and helpful, sharing patterns and videos with suggestions of what to make and they made me feel like a hero, even for my small contribution. I would encourage anyone thinking about volunteering to keep searching the opportunities until you find one that fits you, there is definitely something for everyone there!
