Fundamentals of Volunteer Engagement : Tallaght Library Thursday 30 November 

Fundamentals of Volunteer Engagement is a 2 module course designed to meet the needs of volunteer managers in a changing world. This training will be held at Tallaght Library from 10 am to 4.30pm on Thursday 30 November 2023.

About this event
This two module course is for those who are new to the topic of volunteer management and leadership or who wish to improve their skill set.  The course will cover the following topics:

Planning for volunteer involvement

Changes in volunteering

Diversity and inclusion in volunteering

Volunteer motivations

Volunteer and organisation expectations

Barriers to volunteering

Volunteer engagement

Screening and selection

Day to day engagement of volunteers

Volunteer Charter Consultative Workshops: Monday 13 November 6-7pm online

Volunteer Ireland and the network of Volunteer Centres are looking for input from volunteer involving organisations for the creation of two charters (Codes of conduct, statements of commitments/expectations), one for Organisations and one for volunteers.

Once developed, these codes will be made available to Volunteer Involving Organisations and used to clarify expectations from both volunteers and organisations, when volunteer takes up a role in an organisation. By implementing the code of conduct an organisation will be creating a clear foundation of it’s relationship with volunteers and by ensuring the codes are followed, generating an increased quality in the volunteering experience.

Whether you are a small or big organisation, with few or many volunteers – we would love to hear your ideas and feedback to help us create a simple and useful Volunteer Charter that will speak to all levels of Volunteer Programmes.

South Dublin Volunteer Centre continues to be part of the National Training and Capacity Building Team to bring you FREE Volunteer Engagement training sessions delivered online.

The National Training and Capacity Building Team is a partnership between Volunteer Ireland and the National Network of Volunteer Centres.

International Volunteer Managers Day

A reminder that International Volunteer Managers Day takes place on Sunday 05 November.  The theme this year is Helping Others Help – recognising all that goes into involving volunteers to make a difference in communities every day.

We are postponing our local celebrations until December and will be in touch with you about that soon.  In the meantime Volunteer Ireland are inviting you to join them online for a conversation exploring the volunteering landscape with Martin J Cowling, Volunteer Engagement Specialist from Australia.

Martin will take that theme and encourage and challenge us to a more active and proactive role for leaders in facilitating and supporting the efforts of those we lead. As leaders, Martin believes we are catalysts for helping others excel and make a difference. What do we need to be, be equipped with and know as leaders
